Call for Assistant Managing Editor

 About the role

The Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia (JCEA) is seeking Assistant Managing Editor(s) to work remotely under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Han Woo Park (Yeungnam University) and the Managing Editor, Felicia Istad (Korea University) to prepare the biannual publication of the JCEA.

About the journal 

Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia (ISSN 2383-9449) is a refereed biannual journal that takes  a lead on a new scholarship in Asia. Currently indexed in Elsevier’s SCOPUS, EBSCO, and DOAJ. In the past, the JCEA was dedicated to the study of current political, social and economic trends in East and Southeast Asia. Currently, the JCEA finds unique aspects of Asian scholarship by expanding its scope to (socio-technical) convergence and future (network) studies. The JCEA editors are working very hard to boost the scholarly presence of new Asian scholarship around the world and secure its reputation as an emerging world-class publishing outlet. The editors welcome manuscripts based on original research or significant reexamination of existing literature. Articles are published online, and all peer review processes are administered through the journal’s online submission system. Tasks of the Managing Editor position 

  1. To function as the Assistant Managing Editor of the biannual, open access, peer-reviewed scientific journal. 

  2. To work with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editors in preparing the formatting of journal issues.

  3. To successfully conduct manuscript editing and proofreading under guidance of the Managing Editor.

  4. To communicate with authors and guest editors throughout the process of preparing the formatting of final manuscripts. 

  5. To ensure accurate metadata production for each published paper together with the Managing Editor.

The Assistant Managing Editor is primarily expected to work in the month(s) leading up to publication of the Summer and Winter Issues, which are prepared in the Spring (May-June) and the Fall (October-November). Depending on the workload, status of submissions, and format of the issue, the work may be conducted intensively in the pre-publication stage or phased out through timely preparation.

The Assistant Managing Editor position is remunerated with ​​KRW 150,000 for each of the two annual issues. Additionally, the Assistant Managing Editor’s APC (Article Processing Charge) will be waived for four years.

The term of the position is March 2022 to March 2024 (two years). The position could be  extended afterwards if the assistant managing editor and Editor-in-Chief agree on that.

Qualifications

1. Currently enrolled in a graduate degree (Masters or PhD).

2. Proficient in Microsoft Word.

3. Proficient in English.

4. Korean language fluency is preferred but not required.

5. Demonstrated ability to work professionally and meet deadlines. 

6. Familiarity with academic texts, including citation and referencing practices.

7. Willingness to work closely and cooperatively with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editors, manuscript authors, and KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, the website host) administrative and production staff.
