MEMORIAL FOR DR. JUNG

By Dr. Han Woo Park

Dear WATEF and DISC colleagues, It's already been a year since Dr. Kyu-jin Jung passed away. As I remember spending a hot summer night with him one day, the Chinese term "Jeol-jeol-si-si"  (절절시시, 切切偲偲) comes to mind. When Confucius was asked by his disciples, "What kind of person is a scholar?" he answered that a scholar is a person who encourages  others to do good deeds. The Chinese idiom "Jeol-jeol-si-si "  came out in this conversation. There have been many happy and busy things in the past year, but I can't forget the fact that I let go of a young scholar who was encouraging and talking with a lively face. But on the other hand, even if he feels sad, let's shout to ourselves, "Maybe it's the duty of the remaining friends to live our lives vigorously with new steps." Let's all try to be good scholars for each other!
